LA FEMME Q&A /// ANGIE ANDERSON (THE DARK HAWKS)

dark hawks

Angie Anderson is one of those special human being’s that you will probably only meet once in a life time. We’ve banged on for a couple of years now about the power of her voice, hiding in our town is this major unknown talent. Only recently returning from a successful stint in LA, her band THE DARK HAWKS are a driving force who create a mighty canvas for her voice to dance upon. Ever the play it down low key kinda girl, it’s always those who show the most humility that actually reflect the most light when it comes to the power of music and whether she likes it or not, Angie is the blazing obvious torch barer for Women in Rock n’ Roll in Australia. Lets just hope that this Country catches on within this life time. We live and we hope. Here’s us trying to drag some words out of Angie. Haha! CLASSIC! Catch The Dark Hawks when they headline LA FEMME!

Any female artists out there who made a big impact on you as an artist? If so who? and why?
When I first started singing and playing guitar 10 years ago, I loved Janis Joplin. -still do- She’s pretty amazing that woman! Loved the way she sang, all raspy and bluesy.

LA FEMME Q&A /// w- LA LUZ

LA LUZ

Courtney Luzmila aka LA LUZ is one humble, talented humanbeing. We first met this shy lady when she was drumming for power house indie trio Captain Cook back in 2014. She recently stepped out on her own with her soulful solo project and so far she has been blowing minds when ever she plays. Get down early to catch her at LA FEMME. She does an INXS and Jeff Buckley cover that blows minds. Here’s a things she had to say. X

Any female artists out there who made a big impact on you as an artist? If so who? and why?

LA FEMME Q&A /// w- KITSUNE

KITSUNE

Kitsune has made a mysterious appearance on our horizons of late and we think that there is something musically special going on here. We got in touch ahead of their appearance at LA FEMME this weekend with a few questions and here’s what Kitsune had to say.

Any female artists out there who made a big impact on you as an artist? If so who? and why?
I can’t not say Kathleen Hanna… Her role as a female musician, her presence in the riot grrrl movement and as a feminist activist has always been inspiring; she’s been a positive influential female role model for women of all walks for decades. Other than the obvious; I’ve always had big love for the girls from Babes In Toyland (my all-time favourite girl band to this day), Brody Dalle of The Distillers, Courtney Love of Hole. All of these women have made a massive impact on music, even beyond the punk rock/grunge scene, simply by breaking the mould through being themselves, not conforming to pop culture’s physical and social expectations of women and generally kicking ass as musicians.

LA FEMME Q&A /// w- ELLA FENCE

ELLA FENCE

Ella Fence is a very talented singer songwriter from Gold Coast who will be appearing this Saturday 9 May at LA FEMME. So get down to Captain Cook Hotel to catch her soulful voice and songs which cover all matters of the heart. Ella is currently on tour to celebrate the release of her latest single UNKNOWN WATER. We caught up with Ella before her journey South to ask her a few quick questions about being a woman in music.

Any female artists out there who made a big impact on you as an artist? If so who? and why?
Lorde, because she’s Lorde and doesn’t let anything hold her back – she’s too busy working on her art and sharing it with people, which is what it’s all about in the end, human connection. Continue reading “LA FEMME Q&A /// w- ELLA FENCE”
