RIOT OF THE DAY /// PROTEST SONG BY RAY LALOTOA (FAIT ACCOMPLI)

PROT SONG BY LALOTOA

Hi friends,

I spent the holidays feeling depressed about the Lock out Laws and the current state of NSW. Anyway I started humming this tune and I kinda ended up expressing my feelings the best way I know how, thru song (and Garageband).

I’m not gonna say too much about our current nightmare, because I know we’ve all been keeping up with all the articles. I just want people to know that what is happening to us is only an introduction to what is coming. We’re feeling the pinch with these abhorrent lock out laws, but then there’s the treatment of refugees, the poor, the old, gay and lesbians, the marginalised and even our indigenous people. Our freedoms are being challenged by our Government both State and National and things are only going to get worst, not better, worst! SYDNEY SOUL PUNKS FAIT ACCOMPLI COVER THE M.I.A CLASSIC ‘BORN FREE’ ANTHONY LISTER MAKES THE VIDEO TOUR KICKS OFF THIS WEEK!

While in the midst of writing their new album, Sydney soul punks Fait Accompli were invited earlier in the year to test out a brand new room at King Sounds Studios in Sydney. They spent a day recording their own electrified punk version of the M.I.A classic ‘Born Free’.

RIOT OF THE DAY /// ANTHONY LISTER MAKES VIDEO FOR FAIT ACCOMPLI’S COVER OF M.I.A CLASSIC ‘BORN FREE’

LISTER
Revered Aussie artist and dead set legend ANTHONY LISTER directed the BORN FREE video for Sydney soul punks FAIT ACCOMPLI. CHECK IT OUT BELOW!

Here’s what the band had to say about the making of the video.

When recording was complete, we discussed a whole range of video ideas. But after listening to Born Free on repeat, the random thought of getting the talented artist Anthony Lister to direct our video was all of a sudden becoming an apparent reality (in our heads).

Ray who is friends with Lister built up the courage to ask if he would be keen on making a music video. And as luck would have it, Lister said yes.

After going back and forth over several ideas, in the end Lister decided to take the reigns and make the video by himself. Naturally we were all curious, excited and a little nervous, but mostly we were excited.

A few days later in pure Lister style, he emailed us a download link and disappeared overseas.

Yew!

BID TO SAVE LIVE VENUES /// WENTWORTH COURIER INTERVIEW A PUNTER, VENUE OWNER & MUSICIAN

Things have been heating up in the media regarding the state of the live music scene in Sydney and the Governments proposed 1.30am blanket lock outs in the cities CBD (at the writing of this post these laws were passed swiftly over night without any public consultation). The Wentworth Courier approached a punter; Darlinghurst resident; Sean Roche, a venue owner; Oxford Art Factory’s Mark Gerber and a musician; Frontman of Sydney band Fait Accompli; Ray Lalotoa. This is what they all had to say on the matter.

Wenworth Courier is delivered free to most households every Wednesday in the Eastern Suburb areas of Sydney. Also available from your local Newsagent.

DIE! DIE! DIE! ANNOUNCED AS SUPPORT FOR ‘GANG OF FOUR’ AUSTRALIAN TOUR! LOCALS FAIT ACCOMPLI TO PLAY SYDNEY SHOW

GANG OF FOUR HEADER

KillRockStar Entertainment, Tombowler & Tone Deaf Present:
 Gang of Four
Die! Die! Die!
Announced For Australian Support

Ahead of the 2014 Australian tour to celebrate the 35th anniversary of their classic album Entertainment! Gang of Four have announced that the very special guests at each Australian show will be NZ’s Die! Die! Die! with locals Fait Accompli also joining in for the Sydney show!

Having spent the better part of the past 8 years on the road, Die! Die! Die! now want to make your head, heart, and soul their home. Their entire history has involved movement. The band travelled to Chicago to cut their first self-titled release with some guy in a brick basement (Steve Albini – responsible for some of the greatest records of all time). The  record sent Die! Die! Die! on a whirlwind series of tours, gaining them considerable worldwide notoriety. Last year, Die! Die! Die! self-released their fourth studio album Harmony, recorded at Blackbox Studios, France. Harmony’s raw energy and emotion offers a savant-pop drenched with DIY punk philosophy.  Produced by Chris Townend (Portishead, D12, Violent Femmes), it is the best encapsulation of Die! Die! Die!’s power yet.

Gang of Four is one of the most radical, and radically important, rock groups of the last 30 years. Formed in Leeds in 1976, Gang of Four first performed in May 1977. All the big bands that followed, the Chili Peppers, INXS, R.E.M., U2, have spoken of their debt to Gang of Four but in more recent years, the band’s influence has become almost universal with the emergence of post-punk influenced bands such as the Rapture, Radio 4, Futureheads, Nine Inch Nails, Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party. The band is led by guitarist, songwriter and vocalist Andy Gill, widely acclaimed as an innovator and much copied around the world.

Gang of Four’s debut album Entertainment! was a rare bird for its time, an enthralling amalgam of punk, funk and angular rock that signalled a changing-of-the-guard ushering in of the post- punk era. Released in 1979, this spiky collection of danceable songs would go on to inspire a generation – stripped of excess flesh, it revealed a twitching skeleton rising against apathy and commodity. The influence of Entertainment! is still being felt in music today.  To celebrate 35 years since its release, Gang Of Four will perform the entire album in full and all the hits that followed across Australia in 2014.
