Matthew Gillett who used to run the infamous Annandale Hotel was once involved in a bit of a scuffle with a douche bag who decided that the wall near the sound desk was a toilet for him to write tags on. Anyway it resulted in a serious head injury for poor Matt which led to a serious bout of depression and anxiety. This was a couple of years ago now.
Through a self affirming life transformation Matt is now Matthew Gillett – Visual Artist. He took a journey to Bali and undertook a massive personal art project which in turn led him to a place of true healing and self discovery.
It’s pretty amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it. Seriously, watch this short film and get inspired.
Here’s a sweet slide show of 12-year-old artist Tripp Bianco at work on his latest art project ‘Bear People’ which is currently on exhibition in the window at EMI Records, 18 Hutchinson St, Surry Hills (Flinders St side). Walk past and say “Good times” or “Hello”, they might talk back, they might not.
We love kids here at MSR HQ and yes we are working on an exhibition called KIDS featuring alot of kids making art, so get in touch if you are interested, the list is growing (email: firstname.lastname@example.org) It’s still in the pipeline, so stay tuned.
But while we’re on the subject of kids, man check out our good friend 12-year-old artist TRIPP BIANCO, he is on another artistic adventure and we’re totally stoked for him. Yep while most of us were just chilling over the summer Tripp was making his next creation ‘Bear People’ and these new sculptures are exhibiting right now in the windows of the EMI offices (18 Hutchinson St / Flinders St side) in Surry Hills, pretty neat man.
With a debut exhibition already under his belt and now this, it’s pretty damn clear that life is Tripps oyster and he can pretty much steer it where he wants it to go. You’re a great inspiration to all the kids out there Tripp! and us adults too.
Keep Rockin it B!
