Today is Super Tuesday in the USA. American politics has gone into turbo overdrive. Thanks to the shrinking of the planet via the internet, it is now affecting us all. What ever happens in the US of A psychologically makes us all either happy or depressed. Bush made us depressed, Obama made most of us feel optimistic and now we are set for another kind of leadership.
You have Ted Cruz and Mark Rubio on the far right and the crazy Donald ‘Drumpf’ Trump all vying to be the Republican nominee. And on the left you have Hillary Clinton whom you all know, and the not so over night underground sensation Bernie Sanders. They are both representing the Democrats. The players in this current election scream a certain chaos and the outcome of these primary’s are of great interest to all.
Right now in Australia we are going through our own kinda chaos; like is Tony Abbott a ghost that just won’t leave the building? or is he a psycho maniac? Macolm Turnbull is trying his best to keep a smile on his face, but the downside of being in a party room with Abbott staring back at you must be intense and it’s starting to show. Yes we are going through our own election year. 5 states vs America’s 50, our circus is a mini one at best.
But in the USA the co headliner of the Chaos festival is a guy alot of us know via his own reality tv shows. His name is Donald Trump and he is lurking around in the wings. And as much as he is hilarious in a bad uncle kinda way he is actually fuckin scary and we here in Oz hope that Americans will stop drinking the cool aid and wake up to this guy.
The party is over! Donald Trump is actually a monster!
In hind sight we all now know that we had our own b grade version of Bush/Trump, Tony Abbott was bad for us and thanks to some kind of fate he is gone. But that guy had Fascist tendencies and those naive to this just need to look at the current state of NSW with its lock out laws and now the new $400 fines for not wearing a helmet or carrying ID if you are a bike rider. Don’t get me started. When ever Tony’s skull pops up on the tv screen our collective blood boils, because somehow in his demented brain he actually thinks he can make it back to the top job. But if history tell us something, as scary as it sounds, this is totally possible.
But can you just imagine how heavy shit might be if this guy Trump gets into the White House? Some of the things this guy has said you would not say to your worst enemy, let alone say when you are applying for a job as the leader of the free world. Head buts wall.
So on the opposite end of the chaos we have Bernie Sanders. This guy has a real chance of making some big much needed change in the world. And while his final obstacle is Hillary Clinton (who lost the Democratic nomination to the then new kid on the block and to be first black Prez of the USA, Barack Obama way back in 2008) maybe something good is about to finally happen in World Politics. Otherwise we might as well all get our parachutes ready for free fall.
If Clinton wins the democratic nomination then this would possibly mean her going up against Trump. Pundits have predicted that she would have no chance against him. So far she has already showed holes which against Trump would leave her exposed. And by then the real hate rage of the right would have already spilt out onto the pavement. Trump is an animal.
Bernie on the other hand is a straight shooter and he was made for this. Standing up to Trump would really show Bernie in his true light and he has a special kind of power. He has built a massive grass roots following over the past year and he has been funded and supported by mothers, fathers and young people from all over the Country as opposed to being funded by the major Corporations. It is something that has never been seen in American politics ever. Even last night he managed to raise $40 million just by getting his followers to donate. The people are speaking out!
So from today onwards things are going to get interesting.
Another thing to be aware of is that the democrats have this nasty dirty little secret called Super delegates and these guys are apparently the real deciders of how things turn out for their runners. They’re like little sleazy middle men who kind of have the final say as to who gets nominated.
In this current scenario they are all pushing against the Bernie tide. It’s like winning a race, but then the other team wins because all coaches decided that the losing side had a better coloured uniform. Yes it’s that stupid. Ahhh you gotta love democracy right?
Bernie Sanders is the answer we all need for today, the world is in a mess from corporate greed and a vote for Clinton just means that things are going to keep going the way they are going unabated and that doesn’t spell good news for America or mankind.
Bernie stands for something a little different. He’s fighting to take the power away from corporations and give the power back to the people. Directing spending away from military power and towards free education.
His record for standing up for Black rights in America harks way back to the days of Martin Luther King. He’s been there from the start and this election will be the fulfilling of his hard work, standing up for the people.
Super Tuesday is one of the biggest dates on the American presidential nomination calendar where 13 states go head to head. The winner usually comes away with the Party nomination. Lets all hope that Bernie comes out on top.
In 24 hours we could all start looking at our collective futures with a little more hope. Because the alternative option could be detrimental not only for America but for the world.
