This Saturday sees a stellar lineup take over FBi Social in celebration of independent music in Sydney. A few bands are getting together to put on a party and celebrate music and the good times. So we thought we’d have a few words with headliners Fait Accompli to hear their take on all things music life in Sydney.
AFTERBAKE, nice concept. Is this some kind of anti Homebake festival gig? Yeah totally we’re taking on the establishment! Nick Cave look out we’re going to drown you out all the way from a little venue in the Cross. ha ha! (just joking)
Do you wish you were actually playing at Homebake? Well we got asked to play but we’re not going to play any major festivals until they free that 14 year old kid in Bali for weed possession. “Free The Bali Weed Kid – Now!” “Free The Bali Weed Kid – Now!” These are our simple demands.
So what is your point of view on Boy and Bear winning all those Aria’s? Look we love Boy & Bear, we just think that their music is making it too dangerous for kids in the mosh pit. What happened to the joy of slow dancing?
Ok so we take it that you don’t like Boy and Bear? No no no don’t get me wrong, we totally appreciate what Boy and Bear do, we just don’t believe that young people should have music drip-fed to them by the radio. There needs to be way more punk rock music or just other voices and different styles added to the mix on high rotation, especially on day time radio at a National level. Is music with street punk attitude illegal in this country? It feels like we are living in China!
Your thoughts on Triple J? Mass saturation on Triple J leads to Aria Awards.
Any advice for independent bands? Good luck? ha ha! Look FBi Radio is a beacon of hope for all independent bands in Sydney. Take your songs along to an OPEN DAY (every first Monday of the month) and chat to Dan Zilber (music director), he will give you some good advice and he is actually very friendly. Independent bands should also send their records to overseas blogs like Pitchfork and Stereogum etc… if your music is good, you might just get lucky. Nothing turns your luck around in Australia like a word from our friends from foreign lands. It’s bizarre.
Do you have anything to say about the lineup on Saturday? The bands we are playing with are really exciting and everyone should come out early and see Bang! Bang! Rock n’ Roll! play, we actually can’t wait to see them. We also put together a neat little four track Free Music Sampler compilation that you can download as a sweet taster before the gig. It’s going to be a Hoot!
Any last words? Free The Bali Weed Kid!
AFTER BAKE: for those who didn’t just fall off their dinosaur. Stay out late and throw down with the vanguard of Sydney’s underground music scene.
