MY MARS RIOT /// A MINI FEST AT THE ANNANDALE HOTEL AND YOU SHOULD COME!
So we were approached by our friends at THE ANNANDALE HOTEL to put on a night of music.
We agreed on a date and we decided to put on one of our classic mini music festivals, a lucky 13 band lineup filled with a list of bands we think have the potential to make a big mark within the current independent music scene.
A few of these bands might already be familiar to most of you, but some of these bands you may not have heard of just yet. But if you know our history in discovery music gold, then you’ll believe us when we say that it was damn difficult trying to curate this lineup because all of the bands are damn right special in their own way.
Anyway who are we to try to sell you some kind of fictional story? We suggest you keep the following date SAT 20 APRIL free on your calendar and get along to this special event.
MARS to us is like a metaphor for new music discovery, so we suggest you come planet hopping with us.
Celebrations kick off from 5pm over 2 stages filled with independent music at its finest. Don’t be late, the planets await. XX

LA FEMME – Photography by David Hewitson

Thanks to everyone who joined us at LA FEMME last Friday night. Big shout out to Mylee Grace and the Milkshakes, Bec and Ben, Lourdes, Warchief. Please check out these artists! Thanks to Tallow Gallery, Sailor Jerry Australia, Annandale Hotel, all the visual artists and especially all our friends who came out and celebrated our love for the women who create art and music in our city!
LA FEMME is a celebration or women and their rights to freedom of creativity and free speech in Australia, a privilege that we take for granted.
We dedicate this event to our punk rock sisters PUSSY RIOT who are right now facing some pretty hard times in jail in Russia for speaking out against their Government.
Yes there’s not much we can do physically from here in Australia, but if we can inspire our friends and others to come together and celebrate our creativity, then in the long-term the future may one day be a brighter one for young women not only in Russia, but all over the world.
Peace and love. X

MATTHEW GILETT – MY ART KILLS MONSTERS
Matthew Gillett who used to run the infamous Annandale Hotel was once involved in a bit of a scuffle with a douche bag who decided that the wall near the sound desk was a toilet for him to write tags on. Anyway it resulted in a serious head injury for poor Matt which led to a serious bout of depression and anxiety. This was a couple of years ago now.
Through a self affirming life transformation Matt is now Matthew Gillett – Visual Artist. He took a journey to Bali and undertook a massive personal art project which in turn led him to a place of true healing and self discovery.
It’s pretty amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it. Seriously, watch this short film and get inspired.

THREE S.L.A.M SHOWS TO CELEBRATE LIVE MUSIC AND HELP SAVE THE ANNANDALE HOTEL!

Not many live venues have the street cred and reputation of The Annandale Hotel, its history is rich with musical experiences that will stay with many of us forever. The Anndandale has been through alot as a live venue and Sydney has shared in these times, the good, the bad and the awesome.
So right now is another one of those crucial moments in the history of the Annandale where they are reaching out to the people of Sydney (yes that’s you and me!) to get behind this new campaign where we can all help save the Annandale brick by brick, yes literally by buying a brick!
We were asked to paint this mural at The Annandale. Sick!
Owners, The Rule Brothers, launched their Buy-A-Brick (BAB) Campaign to an incredible response late 2011. Bricks are being sold left right and centre with money going towards a much-needed upgrade and to further reduce the hotel’s debts. As thanks the brothers want to give back to supporters by opening the doors with three free gigs kicking off on National SLAM day, Thursday 23rd February.
On 23rd February 2010, the SLAM (Save Live Australian Music) rally saw 20,000 people march through Melbourne in protest against the Victorian Government’s misguided policy link between live music and violence. The SLAM rally was the largest cultural protest in Australia’s history.
The focal point for these events will be on the hotel’s BAB Campaign. BAB packages, starting at $50, will be for sale on the night, the first round of plaques will be mounted on the outside of the hotel and the for sale signs will be coming down!
Entry to all events is FREE and we encourage everyone to come down to be a part of Australian music history.
Now all of Australia has the opportunity to participate in a national event that celebrates our local
musicians in our small venues. Enter The Annandale Hotel.
The Annandale Team is excited to announce their SLAM (Save Live Australian Music) Day gig details:
Thursday 23rd February
Papa Vs Pretty + Cabins + Palms (ex Red Riders)
Friday 24th February
Fait Accompli + Raise the Crazy + Devine Electric + Blackie (Hard Ons)
Saturday 25th February
The Fauves + Little Lovers + Tom Ugly + March of the Real Fly + Jack Carty
N.Z’s DIE! DIE! DIE! RETURN TO SYDNEY

The awesome DIE! DIE! DIE! (NZ) are in Australia to road test new material before they release their new record later this year. They’ll be at The Annandale Hotel on Thursday 15th April, so get down there to see this three-piece split the venue in two. Bringing
the support artillery on the night are HOWL (Melb) and locals FAIT ACCOMPLI. First band on stage from 8.30pm. Should be a
fun night of music worth bleeding your ears to.
VIDEO – DREAMIN (WORLD PEACE SONG)
DREAMIN – was composed, recorded live to a digital camera and made into an animated video in the space of three days in the final week of 2009. This song is a dreamers innocent account of the world and where we are all heading in life. Song, Art & Video by Raymond X for MY SYDNEY RIOT.
“LONG LIVE THE ANNANDALE HOTEL” THE MURAL
If you’re a keen gig goer in Sydney then you probably would’ve seen the mural we painted for The Annandale Hotel. We filmed the process on a Mac Book laptop and edited it on iMovie. We are on the look out for more spots around town to paint, so get in touch if you have a wall. Anyway the Annandale Hotel is hands down the best live venue in Australia, the owners are cool and the staff are friendly. And they make sweet Thai food out the back. You should get down there and get your deafness on.
