Ariel is generally a shy kinda person, but behind that veil is one fuckin talented artist.

When we heard about this new art show she has been working on for three years now, our ears pricked up and we got very excited because we know that Ariel is the real deal and if the planets align (she believes in them more than anyone else we know in all of Australia by the way) we believe that this could be her moment.

But what is a moment? Ariel is a super natural force to us no matter what and that already puts her amongst the stars because of who she is, herself.

So naturally we are excited and very much lookin forward to what is next for Ariel. If you are free tomorrow night please come along to her latest exhibition SAINTANISM.

We caught up with the talented Ariel over the weekend while she was getting her show ready, here’s what she had to say.

Where did you grow up? SYDNEY

What is your favourite city in the world? and why? SYDNEY BECAUSE I KNOW WHERE TO LOOK.

Did you come from an artist family or did you pick it up somewhere? I CAME FROM A MUSICAL AND THEATRICAL FAMILY, CREATIVE- BUT IM THE FIRST PAINTER, THAT I KNOW OF.

What was the first thing that drew you to making art? BOREDOM FROM BEING AN ONLY CHILD WITH 1 PARENT AT WORK ALOT. IVE BEEN DRAWING BEFORE I COULD EVEN DRAW STRAIGHT SHAPES OR LINES. I USED TO GET MY MUM TO DRAW AN OVAL THEN I WOULD DRAW THE FACE ON IT AND THE REST OF THE BODY.

Can you recall one of your favourite early childhood memories? GOING TO CARTOON WORK SHOPS AT THE STATE LIBRAY IN THE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS.

Do you think your childhood had alot to do with how you turned out artistically as an adult? why? I HAD ALOT OF PERSONAL STRUGGLE AS A CHILD FROM ILLNESS AND MANY OTHER REASONS, I WAS VERY SENSITIVE AND MY CHILDHOOD WAS MOSTLY ABOUT BUILDING STRENGTH. I AM WHO I AM, BUT MOST OF MY INTERESTS AND LIFE FORMATIVE CHOICES CAME IN MY TEEN AGED YEARS WITH DRUG EXPERIMENTATION, AND MY TWENTIES WITH SPIRITUAL AND MENTAL EXPANSION THROUGH INTER-RELATIVE REALITY EXPERIENCES AND SOUL MEETINGS/INTERCHANGES, ARTISTICALLY THO I HAVE GROWN ON A STEADY INCLINE FROM CONSISTENT WORK AND CONSTANT EXPERIMENTATION.

How has that journey been so far? FAR OUT.

What’s your favourite medium as far as making art goes? I USE ALOT OF MEDIUMS BUT IVE BEEN CRUSHING ON GOLD LEAFING FOR A WHILE NOW.

Do your inspirations get referenced in your work or do you utalise them in other ways? MY ART AND MY MUSIC.

So tell us about your current art exhibition. What was the inspiration behind bringing this show together? I’VE SPENT THE LAST 3 YEARS PAINTING THESE PAINTINGS, THEY CONTAIN ALLOT OF MEANING AND HISTORY THAT I HAVE DECODED AND DEPICTED IN MORE PLANNED OUT LARGER SCALE WORKS. ONE OF THE MAJOR WORKS IS NEARLY 9FT TALL DEPICTING LILITH AND BAPHOMET THE MOST INFAMOUS OF THE FORGOTTEN PAGAN SAINTS, AND THERE IS A THEME OF THE UNSEEN BUT STRONGLY PRESENT GODS AND CHARACTERS I HAVE CHANNELED AND CREATED IN THIS COLLECTION “SAINTANISM”

Describe the title of your art show SAINTANISM. “SAINTANISM” IS A NEW RELIGION AND CONCEPT FORMED OF THE IDEA AND NECESSITY OF SHEDDING THE OUT DATED DIVIDING CONCEPT OF GOOD AND EVIL, OR “SAINTS” & “SINNERS” AND REPLACING IT WITH THE REALISATION THAT EVERYTHING IS ALL, AND ALL EXISTS IN EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING IS REAL IN SOME RELM OR DIMENSION/AND NOTHING IS AT THE SAME TIME.
AND IN KNOWING THIS AND ITS AFFECTS (THAT YOU ARE EVERYTHING) THE PATH TO BECOMING YOUR OWN SAINT OPENS.
BECAUSE YOU MUST BE A SAINT, NOTHING CAN BE INTENTIONALLY MISTREATED BECAUSE ESSENTIALLY WE ARE ALL CONNECTED AND ALL FEEL THE EFFECTS AND RIPPLES OF EACH OTHERS CHOICES.

You’ve worked on this exhibition for a few years, what have you learnt about yourself now that you are coming out the other end? TOO MUCH TO EVEN BEGIN TO TELL.

Spirituality and other worlds are constant themes within your work, what drew you to this kind of thinking? (For those of you who don’t know Ariel, to us she is almost like an elfin like spiritual ferry amongst humans) HOW KIND OF YOU TO SAY. IM NOT SURE WHAT DREW ME TO CREATING THIS KIND OF WORK, OR THINKING AND BEING THIS WAY. I HAVE JUST ALWAYS BEEN DIFFERENT AND MANAGED TO FIND WAYS TO ACCOMMODATE THIS AND NURTURE IT INTO ITS POTENTIAL RATHER THAN CAVING UNDER THE PRESSURE AND GETTING A “REAL JOB” I THINK THATS WHY I HAD TO TOUGHEN UP AS A CHILD.
BECAUSE I DEFINITELY DO FEEL A CALLING TO KEEP TRYING TO COMMUNICATE MY IDEAS INTO REAL THINGS LIKE IMAGES OR SOUNDS, THERE IS A REASON FOR THE WORK I DO IN A SPIRITUAL MANNER. IT IS A SHARING AND AN ENERGETIC OPENING OF SORTS. LIGHT WORK

So what are your current beliefs as far as practicing your spiritual beliefs tied in with the current state of the world? RELATING BACK TO THE CONCET OF EVERYTHING BEING EVERYTHING AND THE “ALL” ALSO BEING INSIDE THE SMALL, I BELIEVE TOO THE THINGS I CREATE RESINATE WITH PURPOSE, OR EVEN THE ACTION OF THE CREATION SENDS OUT A ENERGETIC FREQUENCY THAT ADDS TO THE HEALING OF THE UNIVERSE AND THE ENERGIES IN IT.

In Sydney there is alot of art happening everywhere, on the streets and in galleries. Do you have any ideas of how things can improve in Sydney for artists? Or is everything just fine as it is? JUST KEEP GROWING AND DOING. EVERYTHING IS GREAT BUT CAN ALWAYS GET BETTER, A DREAM OF MINE IS THAT ONE DAY WE WILL MAKE THIS CITY LIKE A WORK OF ART. WHY NOT?

You’re a busy girl, tell us about some other creative projects you are working on? GEEZ, WELL THERE IS THE NEW BAND FIRESAINT, AND IVE ALSO BEEN DOING SOME ART DIRECTION FOR A FEW OTHER BANDS ON FILM CLIPS, AND MY STUDIO CLIQUE IS RUNNING WELL WITH ME AND 2 OTHER PAINTERS WHO GET ALONG AMAZINGLY JUST CHILLEN AND PAINTING AND GOING TO SEE BANDS. PRETTY IDEAL AT THE MOMENT. AND I THINK I MIGHT START ON SOME SCULPTURES SOON.

What inspires you to remain creative? GROWTH

What are the positives of being part of the Sydney art scene? I MISS BEN FROST.

Are there negatives? I’M SURE THERE WOULD BE IF I WAS IN A SCENE, HOW DO I GET IN A SCENE?
I’M IN MORE OF A STONER SCENE THAN AN ART SCENE.

Do you have any advice to give to anyone out there starting out as an artist? DONT BE LAZY, IF YOU ARE A LAZY ARTIST THEN YOUR NOT REALLY AN ARTIST. YOU JUST ARTY.

So what would you like to see happening in the future for you? Are you making any plans? or just going with the flow? WEALTH, FAME AND GLORY OF COURSE! NO, I HAVE A LONG TERM PLAN FOR WHAT I WANT TO CREATE ULTIMATELY- BUT IT IS ALSO RELATED TO GOING WITH THE FLOW ON SOME LEVELS.

Any recent life changing moments? MY PERSPECTIVE NEVER STOPS CHANGING, AND SOMETIMES DRAMATICALLY, BUT MY LIFE STAYS STEADY ON ITS PATH MOSTLY, CRAZY WINDY PATH BUT IM STARTING TO GET USED TO IT NOW.
