BAND OF SKULLS VIDEO COMP : OUR FRIEND OLIVER HEATH’S VIDEO MAKES THE FINAL CUT
We know Oliver from around Surry Hills, he is a gentleman and an all round nice guy. But what we didn’t know was man the guy can put together a dope video clip. He entered this video comp at Genero tv and his video for Band of Skulls has made it into the final 6. Holy Red Tube Batman! That’s Awesome!.
The impressive thing about the video was the casting, if you actually check out the other contenders (cough cough) you’ll notice that a few things are amiss with the casting, which can make for uncomfortable viewing and characters can feel a little pushed. When you get it right with the casting, you know you’re half way there and onto a good thing.
Anyway voting is over and now it’s up to the Band of Skulls to judge the winner. You can still head over to the page and leave comments. The best thing about this competition is the fact that the band actually chooses the winner. Lets just hope that this great competition retains its credibility. No doubt some corporate fucker is about to wage in with their dollars and try to suck out its soul, pricks.
After checking out the finalists we think this is the winner, hands down. So good luck to Oliver and his crew and congrats on the awesome effort. Some of us can’t even get out of bed. ha!

PS: Unfortunately a New Zealand entry won, yes unfortunately. Meh! Better luck next time Oliver!
GORILLAZ TOURING AUSTRALIA?
Well if you do the twitter thing then you should really do the Gorillaz twitter thing, I mean follow them. That Murdoc is one funny ass mutha cartoon fella. Anyway with the mention of the word platypus we got thinking that they might be touring Australia in the foreseeable future.
Apparently they’ll be bringing the whole gang and I’m guessing it’s gonna be way awesome.
Sounds nice.
Follow these guys and stay animated kids.

VAMPIRE WEEKEND TO FACE $2,000,000 HUMBLE PIE
The photo used by the VAMPIRE WEEKEND for the cover of their album CONTRA was taken in 1983, it was also used without Model Ann Kirsten Kennis’ permission. Apparently someone forged the poor girls signature for the release form. Naughty naughty, they got busted. It’s just funny that in this day and age people can’t even be bothered or are just too cool to get their album cover right from a legal perspective at least. Anyway they’re rich cats, this album hit no.1 in the USA.
Ann is suing for $2,000,000. I say good luck to her. Mutha fuckers gotta pay.
PS: Apparently the photographer Tod Brody is a bit of a fraud and probably didn’t even take the actual photo. Hilarious.
AND HERE’S THE NEW DIE! DIE! DIE! VIDEO

It feels like the next DIE! DIE! DIE! record FORM is going to be something special. This video is definitely a strong move forward for this New Zealand based 3 piece. They are touring their homeland in July and rumours are they will be heading to Australia soon.
Great use of ideas from the people in the trees, the animation, the bridge. This band isn’t afraid to push their creativity and it definitely shows. Even the production is great. The song has great stereo quality, but it’s still DIE! DIE! DIE! just fanging out as usual.
It’s very rare these days when a band can make you feel lucky to be alive. Real Talent!

ONE OF THE FRESHEST BANDS IN SYDNEY RIGHT NOW – THE GO ROLL YOUR BONES
In our last post, it kind of sounded like we’re hating on softer sounding bands, this couldn’t be further from the truth. We love all kinds of music, but we do feel that in the present climate of heavier bands dying by the second, it should be reasonable for us to discuss and dissect why this is happening in Sydney right now.
We really believe that there should be an alternative to the current alternative. Heavier indie music shouldn’t be grouped in the same category as say softer indie. Separating the two should give space for the heavier types of songs to be heard on radio which should translate to heads making an effort to see more diverse sounding bands. Audiences seem to be following only the bands that are being played on the radio, so if this is the case then community radio needs to make space for more bands that aren’t just making easy on the ear indie music. By musical law people need punk fueled music in their lives. Seeing young people shriek when they hear loud guitars at gigs is kinda sad really.
Take Sydney four piece THE GO ROLL YOUR BONES for example, they’re completely underrated, but they’re probably one of the most brutal and honest sounding amazing bands in this town right now. Great use of layered guitar dynamics, not too many effects, sweet bass lines, an excellent front man (without any I am holier than thou attitude) and the drums pound the message home for all to shake their heads to and simply rock out. This band is a pure rock n’ roll punk arsenal of glory.
They have just completed their debut EP, so lets just hope a label has enough balls to release them and get the word out there about THE GO ROLL YOUR BONES.
More tirades and fresh bands to come. Keep checking back.
Peace.
TEASER OF THE NEW DIE! DIE! DIE! VIDEO
These guys rule!! Kids need to look to this band and get re-inspired. The soft music that is ravaging this Country and raping (alternative?) radio is a real worry. We need more punk rock (it’s a broad term) music on the airwaves, otherwise thought-provoking lyrics, reckless dancing and actually sweating at a gig will become a past time. Lets hope not.
DIE! DIE! DIE! interview coming soon. htttp://www.myspace.com/diediedienz
